IK Goes to Sea
Several parents joined the kids from 1K for their visit to the Manly Oceanworld on a very wet day in November. The following stories by several kids were written down by their teacher.
When 1K went to Oceanworld it was WET! We travelled by train and
ferry. When we arrived we saw the fish. In one tank we saw a
crocodile! I lots of tanks were Blue Starfish, Anemones, seaweed,
coral and lots of tropical fish. And then we went to the touch pool.
We saw spiky sea urchins, a hermit crab, a Port Jackson sharks egg
and live shell fish like barnacles.
Then we went into a room with a blue screen. I saw a Blue Ringed Octopus.
It has blue rings and they are poisonous. Don. t touch a
Blue Ringed Octopus! Then we went up stairs and we saw a show. We
saw and touched a dead Port Jackson Shark baby, sharks skin, sharks
teeth and jaws.
I touched a python and a Blue Tongued lizard.
Victoria wanted to put her hand in the crocodiles mouth and have it
bitten off. We saw a live red back spider and a bird eating spider.
After we left the aquarium we had lunch at Manly wharf and I bought
hot chips. We saw the beach and the Shark Nets. Everyone wanted
to see a dorsal fin for the shark. It was a pity we couldn. t
play in the sand because it was WET! We saw an empty swimming pool
with a slide.
We went home by ferry and train and told our parents we had a
lovely time. I bought a scented shell.

The Great White Shark

The great White Shark eats a ton of fish a day. It is 3 to 4 metres long. Its teeth are about 7 cm long and razor sharp. At the front of the display room fo fish I saw these BIG shark teeth of a megashark as well as a Great Whie Shark. They mate with lots of Great White Sharks. They don't have a choice of being vegetarians or meat eaters.

The Squid
Squids are soft and they are my favourite animal in the sea. My mum thought it was hard but it was actually soft. They lay eggs. They leave them there. Squids are eaten by whales. People cook squid. They put it into Sushi too. On TV I saw a Giant Squid.

Sting Rays
When I saw Tassie the Ray she had 3 long stingers instead of one. She was black with a bit of grey. We saw some people cleaning out the tank. It looks like a triangle with a smiling mouth. I think its 2 metres long.

Seahorses
The Seahorses camouflaged themselves by turning into the colour of the seaweed that surrounds them. It eats small sea creatures like shrimps and krill. It moves by moving its fins fast from side to side. The mother lays eggs in the fathers pouch and leaves them alone. It looks for pieces of seaweed to hold onto with its tail. The tail look like a piece of string that has been curled around a pencil, The babies are as small as your fingernails. It looks like it has a tiny horse mane.

The Grey Nurse Shark
At Oceanworld I walked around the tunnel and saw a Grey Nurse Shark. They have really sharp teeth. The sharpest teeth I have ever seen on a shark. They are grey all over. Sharks do not have bones they have cartilage. I have cartilage in my nose and ears. Grey Nurse sharks are about 4 meters long. They must eat a lot!
